Short Stories
Short stories from the Unexpected Inspiration series:
These are a collection of short stories about artists, inventors, and carnival performers, set in a contemporary high fantasy world. If you'd like to learn more about the series, check out the about the series page and if you're curious about the characters, visit the main characters page or the moodboards page.
The stories are listed newest to oldest, so the most recent are at the top. I regularly add new stories to this list, so check back soon or follow me on Facebook for updates. You can also sign up with your email to receive either a monthly newsletter update or email notifications when I share new content. Many of these stories were written long enough ago that there have been plot and character changes. Just imagine any inconsistencies as an alternate reality!

Novella from the Unexpected Inspiration series:
- "Stuck With You"
Chapter 1 (Adair), 2 (Etri), 3 (Dray), 4 (Blythe), 5 (Sol), 6 (Adair), 7 (Blythe), 8 (Etri), 9 (Sol), 10 (Dray), 11 (Adair)
Summary: The Dorks discover that despite all their differences, pranks, and misunderstandings, their soulmate markings belong to each other. Watch as a bewildered artist, a dopey inventor, a snarky dancer, a protective goth, and a frazzled healer try to figure out how to be a family.
Info: This longer story is a platonic soulmate AU, meaning that it's mostly canon to the series but includes a soulmate trope that isn't part of the real events. (I used the prompt “A [platonic] soulmate AU where you have a black stain where your soulmate is supposed to touch you for the first time and it turns to millions of colors once they do.") This is told in multiple parts with each chapter/scene from a different character’s POV. It starts with the characters' pasts before moving into their present as of book 1 (Colorweaver).
Other Novellas:
- "Hidden Magic"
Prologue, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6, Chapter 7, Chapter 8, Chapter 9, Chapter 10
Summary: A young elf takes up the task of hunting down a band of orc trespassers with the help of her centaur brother. When she stumbles into a pitfall, Meren finds an object: an amulet that gives strange new powers. Little does she know that an increasingly desperate young wizard is looking for the very same amulet and that their paths are destined to crisscross in a weave of chaotic magic.
Info: This is one of my very first stories, written more than a decade ago. I decided to give it a little editing and then re-share it because this story holds a special place in my heart as the one that gave me a love of writing. It's unrelated to Unexpected Inspiration and takes place in a different fantasy world. - "Meren's Tranquility" (short story)
An overworked wizard tries to find peace, finds magic gone awry instead.
