Meet Concordia's Constellations

I'm learning how to paint watercolor and was super excited when I saw that one of the lessons had us painting a sky with constellations! Concordia, the main country in the Unexpected Inspiration series, has a ton of history and mythology about their constellations, which they call the Muses.

Unexpected Inspiration Series: Concordia's Art Magic

Blythe could only assume that if Adair was holding a paintbrush, the jar in his other hand must contain paint or ink. Then again, it was Adair. It could just as likely be grape jam. And to think, she'd finally got herself unsticky from Sol's glue fiasco this morning. With some trepidation, she held out her hand.

Adair flinched and covered his eyes, failing miserably at hiding the image of his new friends recklessly throwing knives around. That would be burned into his brain for the rest of forever. Sol's hands-- they had to be Sol's, no one else was that warm-- gently pulled Adair's from his face. Adair kept his eyes scrunched tight, which made Sol laugh.

“You can't mean that you've stolen from artists!”

Adair's voice had grown loud enough for others in the restaurant to potentially overhear. Etri eyed the room to see if anyone had caught this outburst, and while it didn't seem as though any had, he brought his hand to his mouth in a gesture of silence in case he was wrong.

Unexpected Inspiration Series: Concordian Fashion

Earlier this week I introduced Concordia, the main country in the contemporary high fantasy series I'm writing, as well as its capital city of Silveridge. Today I'm going to talk about Concordia's people in a way that best describes them: with aesthetics and fashion.

Unexpected Inspiration Location: Quarters of Silveridge

Here's another look inside Silveridge, the capital city of Concordia! In an earlier post I showed what the city as a whole looks like. Here I'm talking about a few of the specific quarters/sections of the city. From left to right are the Artisan homes, the Protectorate homes, and the caravanserai where the carnival performers of Silveridge live. These pictures aren't exactly how I envision these places, but they're close.

Unexpected Inspiration Location: Silveridge

Welcome to Silveridge, capital city of Concordia! When a visitor steps into the city for the first time, they’re struck by the contrast between white and color. The architecture varies and no two buildings look the same, but it’s all unified by being almost entirely built from white stone. What isn’t stone is wood or brick painted white.

Etri held his hand out into the warmth of the late morning sun. The beam of light through the stained glass dyed his pale skin a mottled iridescence that framed the tattoo on his palm. "I am not surprised. It is a common assumption that carnies are thieves. What is surprising is the assumption that one would steal a knife such as this."
