Meri's Monthly Musings - Fall 2024

Welcome to a very delayed Meri's Monthly Musings! It's been a long time since I posted here, but since I've been doing more writing lately, I figured it was time for an update!

The reason I haven't shared content here in about two years isn't anything bad, per se, just that I've been dealing with a lot of health issues and brain fog. I have been doing some writing and brainstorming off and on, just not regularly enough for me to share anything new. Friends and my medical team have been cheering me on, though, along with giving me mental tools to help. I'm writing much slower than I was before and struggling sometimes to fight through the fog, but the words are starting to come a bit easier.

I'd like to start sharing short stories again, as well as art that I do of my characters. I've been learning how to draw and paint in the time I've been away and I'm proud of how much I've improved. (Oil pastel has become my favorite medium, closely followed by charcoal, pen, marker, and watercolor line and wash.) You can follow me on my art Instagram if you want to see my progress and I'll post any art that's writing-related to this site. You can get there from the drop down menu above; it's under "series art/pictures" then "illustrations & visuals".
These are some of the drawings/paintings that I've done recently that aren't for my writing since I'll share those later. The bottom right is my first self portrait!

Getting back to writing, I've changed things about plot and characters since I last updated this site because my writing has always been fluid and never set in stone. I'm going to keep my short stories as they are even if they're no longer canon to what the books will likely be (or the new stories I share), but I will be gradually updating the moodboards to reflect changes. Nothing too big, just enough that I want to keep all my info up to date. I have world building info I want to share, too. I use this site as my own organizational system as much as it's also for others to read.

For now I'm not going to be on social media much, sticking with the occasional post to my main Instagram and more frequent ones to my art Instagram. I think I might start updating my author Facebook page as I update this site, so if you want to stay up to date you can follow me there or sign up for blog/site updates here. Or check in with my home page- I'll update that with new stories, moodboard posts, and these ramblings as they go up.

I can't promise how often I'll update but I am going to try to share somewhat regularly. I have a lot of things accumulated from the past two years (and some from before which never ended up on here) so you'll see more soon!
